Watermelon Man ist eine Komposition aus der Feder des weltberühmten Pianisten Herbie Hancock, welche erstmals 1962 auf dem Album Takin’ Off veröffentlicht wurde.
Watermelon Man gehört zu den beliebtesten Jazzstandards. Er kommt leicht funky und entspannt daher und fehlt deswegen auch auf keiner Jamsession, weil er, obwohl 16-taktig, der dreistufigen Bluesform ähnelt.
Gloria Lynne schrieb 1964 einen Text zu dem Song. Die Komposition wurde 1973 auf Herbie Hancocks Bestseller „Head Hunters“ in moderner Form im Funkstil neu eingespielt und interpretiert.
