On the Sunny Side of the Street ist ursprünglich ein Popsong, den JImmy McHugh komponierte. Den Text dazu hat Dorothy Fields geschrieben.
Der Song war Bestandteil der Broadwayshow „The International Revue“ von Lew Leslie, die am 25. Februar 1930 uraufgeführt wurde und noch im selben Jahr bei Shapiro, Bernstein & Co. veröffentlicht wurde.
„On the Sunny Side of the Street“ ist bis heute ein sehr bekannter Jazzstandard geblieben, nicht zuletzt bekannt geworden durch Einspielungen von Jazzlegenden wie Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Dina Washington und Frank Sinatra.
